Welcome!
This site is dedicated to those who enjoy and play Baldur's Gate in all of it's glorious incarnations. This also includes Atari's Temple of Elemental Evil. Your host, Spider (alias Boradorin), admits to not being a game modder nor a particularly knowledgeable expert of the games. He is an avid gaming enthusiast, time permitting, with a strong skill set in designing an aesthetically pleasing web site. Long a player from the days of pen and paper of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons™, since 1978, the trivialities of life have necessitated only short spells of avid playing. The advent of computers, and the games that slowly became available for them (ah, the days of the Eye of the Beholder series!) allowed for a gaming experience unfettered by putting together a pen and paper group.
Invariably each time the games were dusted off countless hours would be spent brushing up on what had transpired in the Computer Role Playing Game realm for Temple of Elemental Evil and Baldur's Gate. Had new modifications been created? Had new things been learned of the game engines? Had someone created new areas? A thread of interest would be found on the forums, and followed, describing a new mod only to find that the site was no longer in existence. This site is somewhat an answer to that dilemma.
No attempt will be made herein to describe the various CRPG games designed and derived using Bioware's Infinity Engine. There are numerous other sites better able to handle this. For a glimpse of the basics chose your poison from the following worthy list: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal, Icewind Dale, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter: Trials of the Luremaster, IceWind Dale II; Planescape: Torment.
One of my personal favorite sites for Baldur's Gate is one found many years ago. Baldur's Gate: Germany has one of the best thought out downloads page and makes me proud to be of German heritage. The imaginative use of game screens and icons from the various games—Baldur's Gate I, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment, et al.—on the main page immerses you immediately into what the site is about. The site's download page is well worth a visit!
When dealing with Atari and Troika's Temple of Elemental Evil there is only one site worth mentioning, The Circle of Eight. It is only thru the efforts of the dedicated modding staff of the site (to whom a deep debt of gratitude is owed) that the game and its engine are viable nearly a decade after the 2003 release of the game. Though the intricacies of the engine itself have never come to life, they have fixed most of the accessible files while at the same time bringing them more into line with the AD&D 3.5 set of rules. A job well done!!! Though Troika is long gone it is fortunate, for those wanting background info, in that their web site is available via the Wayback Machine. The archived Troika site can be visited here. There is also access to articles that once upon a time were posted on the old RPGVault at Imagine Games Network.
This site is designed using the Joomla CMS software, version 2.5.24, with an overlay template purchased of RocketTheme. The template used is the venerable Refraction which has been the basis of many a gamer's site. Though somewhat dated, June of 2009, it still offers many admirable qualities. One is the option allowing the site visitor to chose their own color scheme from a preset of ten. Just click on "Preset Styles" in the top menu and select a color scheme suited to your tastes.
